Open Water II: Antigua
(Antigua, 29th August 2007)
Two British Scuba Divers were abandoned for five hours in
the waters around Antigua after the dive boat failed to notice they were missing
before returning to port.
The pair holidaying in Antigua drifted for
miles in the Caribbean after their dive boat was moved to calmer waters for
lunch.
The rest of the party continued to dive at a different site during
the afternoon, still not realising the pair were missing. The alarm was only
raised when the divers wife´s came looking for them after the dive boat had
returned for the day.
Both men were eventually rescued, one by helicopter
and the other by boat from choppy waters whipped up by Hurricane Dean. Both
were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment of burns, sting and cuts
inflicted during their five hour ordeal.
